RIDERS ARE AWESOME 2012
its riding like this that made me take my brakes off 13 years ago, following in the footsteps of the Gonz and Troy McMurray.
It’s what always got me about riding street, and even snowboarding.
There were no rules, to what I could or couldn’t do on a bike or a board.
Every day, endless creative possibilities.
You loose a bit of that as you get older, but, its always in there, somewhere.
Judging by this video, I’d say its getting better.
I’m really glad that “extreme” sports have become “mainstream”, because for all the negative’s that becoming “mainstream” entails, it means that the sport is more accessible.
Snowboarding is still expensive, and generally a rich white-kid sport, and for the most part BMX is too (I won’t really get into motorsports)
but, the quality vs price correlation has now evened out
meaning you can get a quality bmx bike that isn’t going to break into a thousand pieces when you fly off a ledge and they no longer need to weigh in at 45 pounds to stay together
lighter, better quality builds, coupled with the endless imagination of youth means
insanely technical and unrealistic tricks are now a reality
even with parkour, which I am generally not a fan of - until you see how creative these kids are getting
its refreshing to see
people using their imaginations to move, to create new spaces
where there are no rules.
there never are.
